St John the Evangelist, Groombridge

St John the Evangelist Church

Groombridge Kent TN3 9QH

Prayer book services are held at 11am on the first and second Sundays of each month and
occasionally on the fifth Sunday.

Red-bricked on the exterior, with dark wood and vibrant stained-glass on the interior, St
John’s stands in its churchyard beside the village green of old Groombridge.

Built as a private chapel in AD 1625 the church was consecrated in 1872. Among those
buried in the churchyard is Dorothy Kerin (1889-1963), faith healer, who set up the physical
and spiritual healing centre nearby at Burrswood.

St John’s is part of the united parish which includes St Mary, Speldhurst and St Martin,
Ashurst.
