PRAYER BOOK SERVICES NOW ONLINE AS CORONAVIRUS CLOSES CHURCHES image

PRAYER BOOK SERVICES NOW ONLINE AS CORONAVIRUS CLOSES CHURCHES

2nd April 2020

With places of worship across the country closed for public worship in the wake of the
coronavirus, more churches are now streaming their services online.

For those accustomed to traditional worship based on the Book of Common Prayer (BCP),
the Prayer Book Society has compiled a list of churches which are streaming BCP services
at www.pbs.org.uk

Says Prudence Dailey, chairman of the society (pictured above): ‘We are now living through the first period
since the time of Oliver Cromwell when the words of the Prayer Book cannot be heard lifted
up to God day by day in churches in every corner of England.’

Although most of the online services are coming from vicarages and rectories – following last
week’s decree by the Archbishops of Canterbury and York that churches must remain locked
– a few clergy are still managing to stream live from their churches.

Prudence added: ‘In general the services we are listing are those which will be available at
the same time each week. In addition we will list special services for Holy Week and Easter.’

Pointing out that most of the parishes will be using the streaming technology for the first
time, she said: “Please be patient as they feel their way in a new digital landscape. Many
churches will be working hard to improve the quality of their online offerings as time goes
on.’

Also available on the Prayer Book Society’s website are specially selected prayers and
writings for use by those worshipping from home during the pandemic.
