St Mary's is known for it's warm welcome to newcomers.  There has been a worshiping congregation in Whitewell since 1570 and the current building was constructed in 1830.  The first rector was the Revd Joseph Jacob.  The famous Bible commentator Matthew Henry was baptised here.
