Trustees of the Prayer Book Society

The trustees of the Prayer Book Society are responsible for the governance of the charity and for ensuring that it fulfils its mission to promote the Book of Common Prayer. As a registered charity (no. 1099295), the Prayer Book Society operates under charity law, with trustees who are “responsible for controlling the work, management, and administration of the charity on behalf of its beneficiaries”.

The Board may comprise up to eleven trustees, including the Chair. The trustees also appoint a Deputy Chair and a Treasurer from among their number. Trustees are elected by the Society’s members for a term of four years and may serve for a maximum of three terms.

The trustees provide strategic and operational oversight and ensure robust governance to support the Society’s work. They help shape and guide the Society’s efforts to promote the use of the Prayer Book in worship, teaching, and training—working towards the 2030 Vision: to see people of all ages find life in Christ through a growing Prayer Book service in every benefice.

Our trustees bring a wide range of expertise and experience to their role, including both ordained clergy and lay members who share a deep commitment to the enduring relevance of the Book of Common Prayer in Christian worship and formation. They are responsible for ensuring that the charity operates effectively, manages its resources wisely, and remains focused on its charitable objectives, all while maintaining high standards of governance and accountability.

The Board of Trustees meets regularly to oversee the Society’s activities, which include educational programmes, publications, advocacy for Prayer Book services, and support for ordinands and parishes seeking to incorporate traditional Anglican worship into their ministry.
