Very large book containing the full text of the King James Bible in three sections (Old Testament, Apocrypha, and New Testament), the full text of the Book of Common Prayer 1662 (including the services to mark the failure of the Gunpowder Plot and Restoration of the Monarchy), and metrical Psalms.
The Royal Prayers indicate that the book dates from the reign of King George II. His wife is named as Queen Caroline (Caroline of Ansbach); their son being Frederick, Prince of Wales.
There is a fascinating inscription bearing the name of the original owner, Robert Sumner. His name has been crossed out, and there is a note indicating that the book no longer belongs to that 'undutiful and extravagant son'. Below, are the names of those who in turn inherited the book.
You will see from the photos and the description above that this book needs a lot of TLC, but it would make a very worthwhile and satisfying project for someone who wishes to preserve this book which has been around for a very long time!
