This week's Cranmer Commemoration on Saturday will be exceptional.
To mark the anniversary of the execution of Archbishop Thomas Cranmer, the PBS is reviving a play commissioned in 1956 to mark the 400th anniversary of his martyrdom.
Our traditional church service, the walk of witness to Broad Street, the site of the execution, and laying a wreath of the Cranmer memorial will form the morning's events.
The events are centred on the University Church of St Mary the Virgin, Oxford.
Choral Mattins will be led by the Revd Canon Will Lamb, Vicar of St Mary's, with the Revd Esther Lay, the Revd Fergus Butler-Gallie and PBS Oxford Branch Chaplain, the Revd Richard Smail. The Preacher will be the Rt Revd Gavin Collins, Area Bishop of Dorchester.
The Trial of Thomas Cranmer, originally written by playwright Anne Ridler will be revived in one of the production's original locations.
The photo on this page is taken from rehearsals for the performance. Jonathan Haynes is playing Cranmer. For some years he was a professional actor before being ordained.
