Ecclesiastical Patron named Bishop of St Albans

The Rt Revd Dr Andrew Rumsey has been appointed as the next Bishop of St Albans.

Currently the Suffragan Bishop of Ramsbury in the Diocese of Salisbury, Bishop Andrew takes over from the Rt Revd Dr Alan Smith following his retirement in May.

Bishop Andrew is one of three Ecclesiastical Patrons of the Prayer Book Society.

He was born, baptised and grew up in the Diocese of St Albans, where his father served as a parish priest, and it was "a profound joy to return home".

The 58-year-old said he was "thrilled" to be joining a "fine team" and humbled to follow "good and godly predecessors".

"We send our warmest congratulations to Bishop Andrew on his appointment," said PBS Chairman Bradley Smith, "And pray for his new ministry and all those he will serve."
