An Ordo for the lectionary of the 1662 Prayer Book is being produced for a second year.
Seeking to fill a gap in the availability of liturgical and spiritual resources around the BCP, last year, Father Jonathan Fleury of St Saviour's Leeds produced an Ordo containing the lessons as authorised in 1662. Over 150 copies were purchased, travelling to buyers as far away as the USA and Australia.
“The lectionary of 1662 is somewhat different to what you find printed in modern editions of the BCP. It enables a fuller, more comprehensive reading of the Bible over the course of the year, and it is an invaluable but much neglected spiritual resource for anyone whether lay or ordained” says Jonathan.
The Revd Joshua Delia, Vicar of Christ Church Eastbourne, wrote “Having used the 1662 lectionary since the public worship was suspended during lockdown, I discovered it to be an invaluable means of gazing on Christ in the scriptures. At a time when Anglicanism is often unsure of itself, the Prayer Book stands as a rite with its own integrity, forming grounded, serious disciples. It has been wonderful to use this Ordo, which presents the Prayer Book and its hearty approach to Scripture in an accessible, foolproof way. May it induct many others into Anglicanism as a serious, Scripture-filled vision of one Catholick and Apostolick Church!”
In addition to the readings as set forth in 1662, the Ordo also contains liturgical notes with suggestions for the seasons, and devotional additions mostly taken from Percy Dearmer’s English Liturgy for those who wish to celebrate a fuller calendar of saint’s days.
Copies are £10 and may be pre-ordered here. Copies will be sent out by the end of November. Father Jonathan will be donating all profits from sales of the Ordo to the Prayer Book Society.
