PBS grant aids Chester choir

The Prayer Book Society has awarded a grant of £1,500 to the choir of St Mary-Without-the-Walls, Handbridge, near Chester.

The money will fund five Junior Choral Scholarships for a year and is one of a seven grants that the PBS has made this year.

“We were delighted to receive the very generous donation from the Prayer Book Society,” says Michael Reynolds, St Mary’s Director of Music. “It will help to safeguard the future of the choir and thanks to generous donations such as this, the choir is able to continue the strong tradition of wonderful choral music,” he says.

"The Prayer Book Society is delighted to be able to support junior choral scholars and encourage younger members of the church in their exploration of choral music, and of course the words of the Book Common Prayer," says Diana Cheal, CEO of the Prayer Book Society.

St Mary's has a strong SATB choir that sings at morning services and Choral Evensong. On 12th July it will be singing Parry's 'Hear my words' at Choral Evensong starting at 6.30pm.

Other projects supported by PBS grants this year include; a Confirmand illustrated booklet produced by Rugby School, a grant to support Patronal Festivals Evensongs and a Cranmer Anthem publication.
