Plans are announced for the Prayer Book Society’s Annual Conference in London

Plans for the Prayer Book Society’s annual conference in London next month are announced this week.

‘It will be good to meet members face-to-face again as last year’s conference had to be held online in view of Covid restrictions,’ says the society’s chairman Bradley Smith. ‘Non-members also will be very welcome this year.’

The venue for the conference and AGM on Saturday, September 11 will be St James’ Church in Sussex Gardens.

In addition to the election of new trustees and other formalities, the agenda includes a talk by guest speaker Drew Keane, a lecturer in the Department of Writing and Linguistics at Georgia Southern University in the state of Georgia, USA.

As the first holder of the Prayer Book Society’s John Cosin Scholarship – established to encourage academic research relating to the Book of Common Prayer – Drew currently is undertaking doctoral research at the University of St Andrews in Fife, Scotland.

The title of his talk at the Prayer Book Society’s conference will be ‘Let me hear if thou canst say’: The Useful Orality of the Prayer Book Catechism.

The conference will conclude with Choral Evensong conducted by the vicar of St James’ Church, the Rev Paul Thomas, a former deputy chairman of the Prayer Book Society.
